EASA Part 66 Module 1.3 — Geometry
Geometry (sub-module 1.3) covers shapes, graphs and trigonometry — interpreting diagrams and applying angle and triangle relationships to practical problems. Pythagoras' theorem and the basic trigonometric ratios (sine, cosine and tangent) are the workhorses here, along with reading and plotting simple graphs.

Worked examples
A right-angled triangle has legs of 6 cm and 8 cm. Find the hypotenuse.
Hypotenuse = √(6² + 8²) = √(36 + 64) = √100 = 10 cm.
In a right-angled triangle the opposite side is 5 cm and the hypotenuse is 10 cm. Find the angle.
sin θ = opposite / hypotenuse = 5 / 10 = 0.5, so θ = 30°.
Find the area of a circle of radius 7 cm (use π = ²²⁄₇).
Area = πr² = (²²⁄₇) × 7² = (²²⁄₇) × 49 = 154 cm².
Exam tips
- Memorise the exact values of sin, cos and tan at 0°, 30°, 45°, 60° and 90°.
- Remember SOH-CAH-TOA for choosing the right trig ratio.
- Angles in a triangle sum to 180°; angles on a straight line sum to 180° too — easy checks that catch mistakes.
